Holictic Culinary Living Atricle Launched.
Chef Cathy Hohmeyer has launched a series of articles on healthy living through nutrient dense whole
foods. Her first articles will introduce her Old World whole foods culinary philosophy and then evolve into
practical ideas, tips and recipes. "It has always been a dream of mine to give back what I have learned and
through these articles for readers to understand how truly simple it is to eat healthy. Organic and wholesome
food is the basis for creating energies that drives a healthy body and stimulates enlightenment in your soul"
Chef Hohmeyer remarked. These articles are an outgrowth of the Chef Hohmeyer's doctoral work in naturopathy,
occupational therapy and 20 years of practicing old world culinary traditions. These articles will be the basis
of Hohmeyer's upcoming spring culinary classes.
Article #1: Holistic Cooking: Energizing Your Health & Spirit
I was never into history - the sciences are my thing, but if the past relates to the future, then as it concerns food
- I believe that's true. I have come to trust that re-learning to prepare traditional foods is one of the best things
we can do for our family's health.
As a chef and restaurant owner/operator and a mom to a family of 5 most of my day involves thinking about food.
My health interest started out as selfish one - with my more than often 16-hour days - what could I do to NOT be tired in a day?
Now all those commercials for weight loss programs target "YOU", but chances are that you are concerned with caring for your
family's health just as much as your own. How do we add good habits to our lifestyle or better yet - subtract the "bad" ones.
Change of habit is NOT easy but I have found that it is MUCH easier when you have knowledge behind the reason. Knowledge helps
change because you REALLY know why and are much more willing to incorporate that the change in the long haul, for actual results.
Traditional food preparations give you "nutrient dense" foods. It involves using quality foods in what might be slightly
different preparations. Yet they are easy AND inexpensive. Buying local or organic does not have to crimp your food budget.
Among others who promote this concept is the international Weston A. Price Foundation (www.westonaprice.org), which provides
research and knowledge regarding why "traditional food ways" are not only an important way to keep your immune system able to
fight and prevent dis-ease but a must in these times of so much "food contamination scares".
Did you know that you should soak your flour before you bake with it? Those natural fats like butter and coconut oil
are not only healthy but also essential? Or that grass fed beef can be "loaded with over 400% more of vitamins A and E" than
grain fed beef but needs to be cooked just a bit differently.
OK - so you are not going to stop eating sweet stuff and become a health guru overnight.
But even if you "can't cook" - Here are five very simple tips that everyone can do to improve "nutrient dense" eating immediately.
1 Make your own salad dressings using naturally fermented apple cider vinegar
2 Make your own soup stocks from quality meat bones and veggie pieces, come on - you can watch a pot boil! Making the soup is easy - just add what you like.
3 Look into using therapeutic grade essential oils - improve your meals, naturally clean your home and reduce over the counter drugs. Health benefits have been documented for centuries.
4 Learn more about using high quality unrefined fats and oils. Coconut oil is one - you can make date candy or home fried potatoes. Do you know what 6 others are?
5 Learn to ferment vegetables. Chop, place in a jar and watch. There is no cooking or canning required. It's one of the healthiest, easiest and least expensive methods to add good probiotics to your diet. And hey - its not yogurt.
